HopeStart Mental Health

When work affects more than work.

Employment can shape identity, confidence, routine, finances, relationships, and a sense of purpose. HopeStart Mental Health offers psychotherapy for the emotional impact of work and career disruption, while also providing general individual psychotherapy for concerns that extend well beyond employment.

Two pathways, one person-centred approach

Therapy can focus on work—or on whatever else life is asking of you.

Our psychotherapy is collaborative, adaptable, and grounded in professional practice. The focus depends on what is happening in your life and what you want to work toward.

Employment-focused psychotherapy

Because changes in work can affect far more than work.

Therapy may explore involuntary job loss, burnout, workplace stress or conflict, return-to-work anxiety, workplace trauma, changing capacity or disability, confidence and identity after career disruption, boundaries, and rebuilding a sustainable relationship with work.

This is psychotherapy—not job-search counselling. The focus is emotional wellbeing, healing, coping, identity, and the personal impact of employment experiences.

General individual psychotherapy

Support does not have to begin—or end—with employment.

General psychotherapy is also available for anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, life transitions, emotional regulation, self-esteem, identity, feeling stuck, and personal growth.

You do not need to fit your concerns into an “employment” category to access therapy through HopeStart Mental Health.

What therapy may help with

Practical coping and deeper understanding can exist together.

  • Workplace stress, burnout, conflict or harmful workplace experiences
  • Job loss, career disruption and uncertainty about what comes next
  • Anxiety about returning to work or adjusting to changing capacity
  • Depression, grief, trauma and major life transitions
  • Relationships, communication, boundaries and emotional regulation
  • Confidence, identity, self-compassion and personal growth

Insurance & payment

General psychotherapy may be eligible for reimbursement through your benefits plan.

Where your insurance plan covers services provided by the treating practitioner, HopeStart can provide appropriate receipts or documentation for reimbursement. Coverage differs by insurer, plan, practitioner designation and individual policy, so clients should confirm their coverage directly with their insurer before beginning if reimbursement is important.

Service availability

  • Virtual psychotherapy is available across Ontario
  • In-person availability varies by clinician and location
  • Employment-focused and general psychotherapy can both be discussed during your initial inquiry
  • Clinical information is handled through HopeStart Mental Health’s secure practice systems

Our approach

Support should fit the person.

We begin with your experiences, goals, strengths, challenges, preferences, and everyday life. Therapy may include reflection, practical coping strategies, exploration of patterns, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that makes sense for you.
